Teacher Knowledge Test

TKT tests knowledge about the teaching of English to speakers of other languages, and concentrates on the knowledge needed by all English Language teachers.TKT helps teachers to find out about the main areas of teaching knowledge needed in the English language teaching classroom. Candidates are advised to have at least an intermediate level of English (PET/IELTS band score of 4/B1).

Module 1 - Language and background to language learning and teaching: looks at general knowledge of the subject matter to be taught and background to ways of teaching and learning. These aspects have been grouped together as they underpin the rest of the test. Their inclusion also makes explicit the methodology of the test.

Module 2 - Planning lessons and use of resources for language teaching: looks at what occurs before specific classroom events – the planning and selection of lessons, resources and materials.

Module 3 - Managing the teaching and learning process: looks at the classroom event itself – teacher and learner language, and the management of the classroom and the learning process.
