To
Enhance my students' awareness and to foster their
autonomy I am following the strategy below,
besides I appreciate the guidance of European Common Framework and Portfolio.
Learner Autonomy
The ELP has a
reporting and a pedagogical function.
-
Represents
information about the owner’s experince of learning and using second/foreign
languages and concrete evidence of language learning achievement.
-
Helps to make
language learning more transparent to learners, developing their capacity
for reflection and self-assessment, and thus enabling them gradually to
assume more and more responsibility for their own learning. (In this way it
serves as a tool for promoting the development of learner autonomy.)
Learning depends
on partnership. (Little,1991; Dam,1995)
Self-assessment
and assessment by others should support one another.
Lifelong learning
implies autonomy for including choices.
To Foster
Learner
Autonomy : I am following the strategy below...

COMMENT
-
It was good
lesson but the subject is very different. We haven’t been taught
linguistics like this until this time. This feeling may come from my
background.
-
We learnt very
new things. I heard a lot of things I hadn’t heard before. But
understanding the necessity of this lesson is really hard work. It has
real details. But, I beleive that one day I will see the benefit.
-
I like the
lesson because the subject was beautiful and different from others, and it
was really interesting. Sometimes I hate seeing the same things in lessons.
-
I like the
lesson. It was nice to experience a lesson with another teacher, it was
also nice to see your real teacher sitting among the students. I beleive
she will be a good teacher but I prefer my teacher.
-
I want to
admit that I liked this lesson much more than the other. It was funny but
at the same time we learnt many things.

LESSON
-
I personally
believe, I’ll utilize in advance of the lectures, throughout the term
because the lecturer aroused great curiosity towords the lesson, and all his
utterances in realtion with the new beginning course were totally worth to
be paid attention.
-
This lesson
seemed to be a bit developed version of the previous one but I don’t blame
anybody for this for sure. Since, the attendance rate was low last week, I
think the lecturer wanted to make a second Outlook to the general theme as
an introduction to others. Of course, there many other topics which were
really interesting and unsual which made the lesson colourful.
-
To be frank, the
lesson was not as colourful as the previous ones. Since the topic, the
subject (language and brain) was quite scientific, and based upon lecturer’s
explanations, we’ve at the cooling of period but the explanations and the
given knowledge really made sense.
-
The lesson was
well-explained, well-organized and not distracted. The lecturer made much
explanations which were coherent, explanatory and in sequence. This lesson
was interspersed with exemplifications which were not intricate and helped
us to get the hang of the main points.
-
I don’t know why
but this lesson was the most appealing and the liveliest one. The subjects
were interesting but the lecturer gave mainly Turkish examples to clarify
them. If they were in English, too, I think that ; THE LESSON WOULD NOT BE
EATEN FROM ITS TASTE! :)) (absolutely Törkiþ I know, but it’s just to extend
your humorous language)
(Sena,
, HAYEF ELT 2003, Ýstanbul Uni.)
2. I didn’t
suppose that that lesson would be enjoable because it is just a lesson. But I
can say taht this lesson will be my favourite lesson. It is both enjoyable and
understandable. I can’t say something for the subject itself.
3. I wasn’t
interested in the subject bacause it went completely over my head. I can’t
remember the names of the part of brain, also functions.
4. This lesson was
interesting and enjoyable that I didn’t go out of the subject. Esra Haným
explained the communication precess with beautiful examples.
5. I was
intereseted in the lesson this week so much. It was related with the structure
of language. Knowing the parts of something which you have to use every moment
is exciting and good.
(Gül,
, HAYEF ELT 2003, Ýstanbul Uni.)
YOURSELF
2. I didn’t get
bored in the lesson. I could understand the subject of the lesson with the help
of the examples. And as I’ll become a teacher also, I learned some techniques in
teaching a lesson like this.
3. When I read the
title and the book, firstly I thought these information wouldn’t be useful in my
job. But, after the lesson when I learned the relationships between the language
and brain, mind, I thought I can use the information as I would teach language,
a foreign language to my students.
4. As teachers have
to communicate with students, parents, and other people in every part of the
country, they should use language appropriately. They should have knowledge
about the real communication. I’ll be a teacher also, and I think this lesson is
very useful form y success in my job.
5. If someone wants
to be good at linguistics, he should know the syntax, semantics, phonology and
other things that we learned in this lesson. Because I will be a teacher and I
should have knowledge about linguistics, I benefited from this lesson.
(Ýlknur, ,
HAYEF ELT 2003, Ýstanbul Uni.)
-
As it was the
first lesson I preferred to listen to understand what’s going on. I didn’t
understand understand lots of things, I could ask and learn but I didn’t try
it because I was thinking that what would would I do with this lesson.
-
I attended to your
lesson because I was thinking this was very enjoyable. I tried to translate
the people’s speeches which were on the paper which you gave us. I didn’t
understand some of the things you said because those things were abstract and
so sometimes I didn’t catch the lesson.
-
I was good also,
because your lesson was very interesting form me. I said before that I loved
neurons and schematas and I asked questions to learn more. I joined the lesson.
-
I folowd the
lesson from my photocopy. I listened and learned. I didn’t say anything
because Lecturer Esra was very fluent and I didn’t want to interrupt her.
-
I was good in this
lesson. I’m not a modest student I know. I was so good that I answered your
question which no student answered. “Context” this means I listened and
understood your lesson. :))
(Müslime,
, HAYEF ELT 2003, Ýstanbul Uni.)
GAIN
-
I started to
undertand the general structure and characteristics of language.
-
I couldn’t accept
these theories about the origin of language. But I learned the supports of
these theories.
-
I learned the
effect of my brain in my life, and that psychological process.
-
I understood the
importance of society which effects our lives directly.
-
I started to think
that language can’t ve seperated from human-being. Everuone has language tools
in his brain.
(Mustafa,
, HAYEF ELT 2003, Ýstanbul Uni.)
1.
Now, after the first lesson I started to think about language.” What is
it, where does it come from?”
2.
After this lesson I think more about where language comes from and now
“accents” around me affect my decision about where it belongs to.
3.
I learned how we speak, where the words occur etc.. and the function of
the brain.
4.
I understood the ingredients of communication, and communication styles.
5.
As in others, I learnt new things about language in this lesson.
Sociolinguistics is my area. I want to investigate it.
(Selda,
, HAYEF ELT 2003, Ýstanbul Uni.)
-
I learnt new terms
about language, began to see language in different aspects than before and
some ideas about the linguistics formed and shaped in my mind.
-
Throughout the
lesson, I learnt language theories in history, language functions, language-thought
relatinship, sociolinguistic area and had knowledge on strategic competence.
-
I acquired new
terms, formations and information over our administrative and vital organ,
brain. Its hemispheres, localization, lateralization, and some ilnesses about
it and how language develops through the brain channel.
-
I learnt new
things about the dimensions of communication, what forms a piece of
communication and had a discriminative idea between linguistic competence /performance
abd communicative competence.
-
I believe that
with the new knowledge of language elements, ý developed my comprehension of
them ( morphology, phonetics) I learnt what kinds of speeches there are. I
gained new concepts such as mis-communication, intersocial, ets..
