Dear Everybody,
This year is about to come to an end, and all of you are on the treshold of the third year, that is, you are half way through your primary goal. Despite the fact that we had a one term break, it is wonderful to be together again for another lesson, which is Linguistics.
It is of my concern to share brand new insights about language with you. In this lesson we will be discussing the language phenomenon, and looking closely at the other domains that nurture it. Some of them are language origins, language-brain relationship, sound, word, syntactic, meaning, social and cultural systems, communication through cultures, discourse analysis, as well as teaching and learning of foreign languages. Linguistics and language teaching are interrelated, this fact will be of our concern as well.
We will be working on some texts and books in order to develop awareness about our own language use. Hopefully, this will give rise to your own elaboration on literature and linguistic creations. Furthermore, coursebooks will be looked upon for the reason that we understand how findings of linguistics contribute into language teaching, and help to foster language learning.
Besides, you are expected to participate into the discussions during the classes, complete your weekly assignements, and engage yourselves in monitoring the language and its reflections on our lives and our profession.Out of blue, you will be distributed evaluation forms every two weeks, which will make it possible for you to evaluate and assess your own performance, activities during the lessons, your teacher’s performance, the flow of the lesson and the general aspects of our lesson.
Any kind of comely critisims regarding the items above will be welcome. It’s time we started deciding on our own learning and teaching styles. All the good things to those who work hard.
Tuncer Can
